Using the premise that the Kingfish had set up a radio station in the Lodge Hall of the Mystic Knights of the Sea, Amos & Andy playing records between comic sketches and were often joined by a guest celebrity. Amos 'n' Andy is a situation comedy set in the African-American community. It was very popular in the United States from the 1920s through the 1950s on both radio and television. Amos and Andy began as one of the first radio comedy series, written and voiced by Freeman Gosden and Charles Correll and originating from station WMAQ in Chicago. Although the characters had been a part of the radio scene since 1928, by the time the Music Hall began airing in 1954, the franchise was still important enough to attract some of the biggest names in the music, radio and movie industry as guests.
